Sonia Abel, LPC

License Professional Counselor

Sonia has over fifteen years of experience counseling a diverse clientele of all ages, ethnicity, and sexual and gender orientations. She has experience working with adults with trauma from past abuse, bullying, and dysfunctional families. She also is passionate about working with issues that come up for adults during periods of transition such as being away from home for the first time in college, a new job or new relationships.

Sonia has extensive experience in working with clients with a family history of mental health conditions including all forms of anxiety- notably social anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, bipolar disorder and post- traumatic stress disorder.

Sonia believes that hurtful experiences from our past can become problematic subconscious beliefs, feelings, and behaviors that hold us back from our essential selves and our true potential. She uses a variety of healing modalities to create a safe, nurturing, and non-judgmental environment to facilitate personal growth.

She is a holistic therapist and takes the whole being into consideration using mind, body, and spiritual techniques to utilize the Self’s natural inherent drive toward wholeness.

Are you looking for a safe place to heal as a family or couple? Or are you an individual trying to figure out effective communication strategies? Is it difficult to discuss the hurt and pain without causing more? Whether you are a teenager trying to get your parents to understand or an adult trying to figure out how to manage the stress of fulfilling multiple roles. I would like to assist you in finding creative solutions. Freedom is not just an idea. It can be achieved.

The therapy modality that I use are more solution focused therapy sessions. Cognitive behavior focuses on the present and Narrative therapy focuses on your own internal strength base resources. In narrative therapy you are the expert of your life. Together we can look at what is helpful and what is hurtful, what needs to stay and what needs to change. I specialize in helping you find the roots of unhealthy thought patterns and develop individualized coping skills as well as learn how to operate within a hurtful family system.

My goal is to create at least one place in this world where you can be uncensored and unfiltered! Say it how you feel it without fear of judgement.

This is YOUR journey... a journey where YOU get to decide how to design your own day, your own week, your own life. Life doesn't need to be a constant struggle.

Anger is a natural basic human emotion that is often used to express negative feelings. We believe that anger is a secondary emotion, usually a reaction to underlying emotions such as frustration, hurt, loss, or disrespect. Road rage, violent behavior, verbal abuse, aggression, intimidation, and lack of empathy, are examples of issues that benefit from anger management. The goal is to teach people to identify, understand and defuse their own anger by learning healthy expressions of anger that are acceptable to society, so that violence and self-destructive behavior can be avoided.

Coaching is my passion. Coaching is a meaningful and rewarding way to support yourself in breaking through obstacles to do the things you want or need to do. My approach is to be a guide, working with you to identify thoughts and behaviors which are healthy and unhealthy for daily living. I guide people who are suffering from daily hardships, stress, anxiety, lack of direction or goals in life, addictions, relationship issues, and simply life in general.

Together, we take a look at your satisfaction with all areas of your life. I will help you with prioritizing what areas you want to focus on, and we design small steps forward. I will support you and help you hold yourself accountable as you move in the direction of a healthy life.
